According to reports, the Air intelligence Unit of Goa Customs at Dabolim International Airport, acting on intelligence inputs and passengers profiling, seized 10 tola gold bars weighing a combined 1,164 gms and valued at Rs 31,59,096, from a 36-year-old native of Kerala, who had concealed the gold on his person.
The passenger was travelling from Dubai via Air India flight AI-994. The smuggled gold has been seized and the passenger has been arrested under Section 110 of Customs Act, 1962.
Further investigation is under progress. This is second gold seizure in a fortnight.
In the second incident, Customs officials at Goa Airport also seized cigarettes worth Rs 1.16 lakh from another Kerala native who arrived at Goa Airport on Monday afternoon by an Oman Air Flight WY-207. The goods have been consfiscated and personal penalty was imposed.
